Super Gemma Towell - Collage

Gemma is Raising £10,000 for Beefy’s Charity Foundation!

Gemma Towell, Foil & Band coordinator, started her fundraising efforts back in January 2013 in light of a close friend and colleague being diagnosed with cancer. Since then Gemma has raised over £5000 for Cancer Research UK by embarking on an endless series of physical challenges which has seen her cycle over 19,000 Km and run over 1,500 Km to date!

With the backing and sponsorship of Whitaker’s Chocolates, Gemma has pledged to continue her efforts with the goal of raising £10,000 in 2016/2017 for our main house charity ‘Beefy’s Charity Foundation’. Beefy’s foundation raises money for 5 important charities (detailed below) and it is fantastic to have her help towards this great cause.

The main (but by no means only!) event for Gemma this year will be the John O’Groats to Lands End solo-cycle, starting 25th July, which will take a mere 8 days and cover over 1,400 Km! This is the same route that Beefy chose for his first walk back in 1985, raising over £1,000,000 for Leukemia Research.

Check out Gemma’s crazy calendar and updates below and PLEASE follow the link and donate today to help her reach her target!

Beefys Charity Foundation

Beefy’s Charity Foundation

Beefy’s Charity Foundation is Whitakers Chocolates primary charity. In 2010, Managing Director William Whitaker completed ‘Beefy’s Great Forget Me Not Walk’ raising over £30,000 through generous sponsorship from customers suppliers, employees, friends and family. This, in combination with funds raised from our Calendar Girls chocolate packs (from which 20p per box sold was contributed to the charity) saw Whitakers raise over £100,000 for the Charity dedicated to raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma research.

“The Foundation helps to fund specific projects relating to chronic illnesses and other challenges that young people face.

These are serious issues, but we like to raise money by having a lot of fun. We raise money from a series of high profile events (and additional donations) and really appreciate your interest and any support you would like to offer.

We support a range of carefully selected projects by issuing grants, and we thank you for helping to make a big difference.”

-Sir Ian Botham

Whitakers Chocolates have supported Barnardo’s for over 15 years, primarily by means of taking tables and providing chocolates for sponsorship of their largest annual event, the Firecracker Ball.

Barnardo’s are celebrating their 150th anniversary with a Royal Garden Party to be held at Buckingham Palace on May 12th this year, and Whitakers have been lucky enough to be invited along.

From their website:

“Barnardo’s believes in children regardless of their circumstances, gender, race, disability or behaviour. Our purpose as a charity today is to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children

We believe in the abused, the most vulnerable, the forgotten and the neglected. We will support them, stand up for them and bring out the best in each and every child.”

Socks & Chocs

Whitakers Chocolates began its relationship with Socks and Chocs in 2014. This wonderful charity is dedicated to providing warmth and energy to the homeless community by providing them with socks and chocolates. In 2015 Whitakers delivered over 2 tons of chocolates, mostly mint fondant cremes, to Socks and Chocs, and we are looking forward to building this relationship in the coming years. This truly is a brilliant charity – please do contact the charity founder Ian via the web address below if you feel you can help too!

From the website –

“A lot of people doing a little, is better than a few people doing a lot”. That’s the motto of ex armed serviceman Ian Northcott (AKA the “Busking Bobby”). In 2010 he decided he wanted to do something to help the homeless people of Birmingham – and that’s where Socks and Chocs began.
